Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time to fill out the paperwork unless you have downloaded or picked up the Welcome paperwork and have it completed prior to your visit.

Computerized examination: The first part of your visit will consist of preliminary examinations of your vision with one of our technicians. It will include computerized auto-refraction, a screening of your visual field, and an initial check of your vision with lenses. These examinations aid Dr. Mitchell by obtaining initial data about your eyes and vision so he can access your unique needs.

If you are over 18 years of age the technician may ask your permission to put drops in your eyes. The purpose of these drops is to open your pupil wider. This will allow the doctor to have a wider view of the inside of your eye, enabling him to perform a more thorough medical examination of the eye. These drops will make your reading and computer vision blurry until they wear off, typically within four to six hours. You may want to schedule your appointment for an appropriate time, keeping this in mind.

Examination: Dr. Mitchell will perform a comprehensive eye examination, a complete vision evaluation, and medical assessment. He or she will also diagnose and treat any eye conditions you may have, or refer you to a specialist. The doctor will educate you about all parts of the exam and results. You are encouraged to be involved and ask questions.

Contact Lens Examination: You may be fitted with contact lenses during the exam at your request.

If you want contact lenses, additional measurements will need to be taken. These measurements require different instruments and take more time, so please let us know in advance if you are interested in wearing contact lenses for the first time or wear them presently. Depending upon your prescription, Dr. Mitchell will determine which lenses are best for you, and will usually give you trial lenses to check your fit and vision. Once your contact lenses are comfortable, one of our staff members will teach you about the insertion, removal, and care of your lenses. A follow-up appointment will be made to see the doctor.

Post-exam: Dr. Mitchell will instruct you and a technician on your needs and convey his or her recommendations. You will receive a new prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses, if needed. You may choose frames from our selection of over 600 designer frames. Our frame and lens specialist can assist you in choosing frames and lens options that best suit your needs. For more information on frames and lenses see the Eyewear section of our website. Our staff will help first-time contact lens wearers learn to insert and remove contact lenses. If continuing care of your condition is needed you may be appointed for a follow-up visit. The doctor may also have some additional diagnostic tests performed after your examination is completed.

We look forward to seeing you at our office!
