Kelly Kesti, OD
Optometrist
Dr. Kelly Kesti, a native of the Copper Country, earned her undergraduate degrees in Business Administration with a concentration in finance and Biological Sciences from Michigan Technological University. She graduated from the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University, earning her Doctorate of Optometry in May 2010.
Internships during her 4th year included the Garrett Eye Centers in Iron Mountain and Escanaba, MI, Duane Waters Hospital in Jackson, MI, which is part of the State Prison of Southern Michigan, and Eglin Air Force Base in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
Shortly after graduating, Dr. Kesti began practicing in Green Bay and Appleton, Wisconsin. She began practicing at InSight EyeCare in October 2011. Dr. Kesti practices full-scope optometry including therapeutic treatment of disease, foreign body removal, glaucoma treatment, refractive analysis, contact lens services, and diabetic eye examinations.
Dr. Kesti is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Michigan Optometric Association.
Dr. Kesti enjoys spending time with her husband and three children, doing outdoor activities including running, biking, hiking, and camping.

Optometrist
Dr. Mitchell completed his graduate work at Ferris State University, Michigan College of Optometry, graduating with honors in 1990. He acquired his post-graduate training at The Lighthouse in New York City. The Lighthouse is a world-renowned facility focusing on visually impaired patients with low vision.
Opportunity in the Copper Country presented itself and Dr. Mitchell and his wife, Cydne, established a solo practice in Laurium, Michigan in 1990. The practice outgrew this original facility, and in 1997 the practice relocated to Calumet as “InSight EyeCare.” InSight EyeCare outgrew its space again in 2013 and relocated to a new building on Copper King Way in Calumet.
Dr. Mitchell provides full-scope optometry, which includes refractive analysis, contact lens services, therapeutic treatment of disease, foreign body removal, glaucoma treatment, and diabetic eye examinations. Specialty services include Low Vision Care and co-management services for surgical interventions such as Cataract Surgery and LASIK Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Mitchell is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Michigan Optometric Association, the Upper Peninsula Optometric Physicians Society, the Great Lakes Independent Eye Care Network, and has been involved with the optometric profession on a national level. Locally, he is a member of the Calumet Lions Club, the Keweenaw Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, and The Keweenaw Economic Development Association.
Volunteer efforts within the profession include being a team member of the American Optometric Association’s, Sports Vision Section. At three different International Special Olympics, World Games, Dr. Mitchell was part of the team doing vision assessments of Special Olympians from around the world. With the Michigan Services for Blind Persons, Dr. Mitchell has assisted with low vision assessments alongside optometry students both in the Upper Peninsula and the Lower Peninsula. The Special Olympics volunteering was the most rewarding and challenging. Many of the Special Olympians had never had an eye exam and very few spoke English.
When free time avails, skating, snowshoeing, biking, music playing, boating, and hiking are on the list of activities.
Certifications:
Donald W. Mitchell, OD, FAAO is certified for the Treatment and Management of Ocular Disease by the International Association of Boards of Examiners in Optometry. He is Certified for Diagnostic Pharmaceutical use and Therapeutic Pharmaceutical use. He has held hospital privileges at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital since 1993.
